The Instructor's
Guide is for East Texas AHEC Center Directors and/or supervisors of
Community-Based Education (CBE) Coordinators. It begins with a statement
about the purpose of the WebQuest:
This website is designed
to provide community-based education (CBE) coordinators with an overview
of service-learning in health professions education. The premise is
that by providing CBE coordinators with the concepts of service-learning,
they will be better equipped to work with members of the community
and health professions students in engaging the students in service
activities that meet the needs of the community. Whether these activities
are a part of the student’s structured learning experience or
simply an extra-curricular activity while on a community rotation,
service-learning activities can benefit both the student and the community.
An added benefit is that by engaging health professions students in
community activities, they will feel that they are a part of the community.
This may ultimately play a part in a student’s decision about
where to practice upon graduation from their health professions program.
The “instructor”
is then asked to review the WebQuest, and provide feedback about the
site using the Website Evaluation Survey. The specific role is for the
instructor is to confer with the CBE coordinator to assist them in identifying
service-learning activities that would meet the needs of communities
in their region, and to provide the coordinator with contact information
for people and community organizations that could facilitate service-learning
activities for health professions students on community rotations.
Contact information for
the web developer is also provided to assist with any questions or comments
the instructor may have.
