Service Learning in Health Professons Education
What You Will Do
To learn about service learning you will complete the following activities:
- Review the pages on this website to learn about the benefits and components of service-learning.
- Explore service-learning web pages of academic institutions and community organizations to learn about formal service-learning projects for health professions students.
- Collaborate with your supervisor and identify specific service needs in the communities in your region and identify service-learning projects for health professions students on community rotations.
- Complete a post-assessment.
Upon completion of this activity you will be able to:
- Define service-learning.
- List the three basic components to effective service learning.
- List at least two benefits of service-learning to the health professions student and two benefits to the community.
- Identify two potential service-learning activities in a community in your region for health professions students to participate in.
